Nov 22 – Cole Thompson: Process B&W in 6 Simple Steps

November 22 @ 7:00 pm 9:00 pm

We are thrilled to have Cole Thompson join us again, offering his inspirational perspective and insights. His session last February was definitely one of the highlights of the year. Popular Photography called Cole Thompson the Photoshop Heretic because his post-processing is so simple and unconventional.

In fact, as Cole says his post processing “It is so simple that I was embarrassed to let anyone see me work! Everyone was talking about their special software, plug-ins, monitor calibration, layers, masks and elaborate processes that it made me feel like the village idiot. But eventually I came to my senses and realized that all that mattered were the results.” And Cole’s results are remarkable! They speak for themselves.

Tonight Cole will demonstrate that a great image can be created with a very simple setup and procedure. His black and white processing typically involves Photoshop, a Wacom tablet and six tool/ steps – no extra software, no plug-ins, no layers (he doesn’t know how to do them)…in six simple steps.

Cole Thompson describes himself as “uniquely unqualified” to speak on photography. As he says, “I’ve never taken a photography class or a workshop. I don’t have a degree in art. I’ve never worked as a photographer. I don’t have gallery representation. I’m not a Canon Explorer of Light. I have only three lenses and none of them are primes. Do I have any qualifications? Just one … my images. Nothing else matters.”

This session is open to all levels, from novice to advanced by Zoom: A link will be emailed to you after Noon on the day of the event. Presentation hosted by the Victoria Camera Club. There is a Guest fee of $5.
