Members of Photography Clubs have very diverse interests and needs and Shared Interest Groups are a way for communities of photographers to explore specific genres or techniques within the field. These groups provide a platform for members to share knowledge, learn from each other, and collaborate on projects related to their shared passion. They foster relationships and learning amongst members.
Within KPAC, shared interest groups are initiated by club members, not the Leadership Committee. Any individual member can start a Shared Interest Group and initially will act as the coordinator of the group. Once formed, the group decides what the scope of the interest group is, whether the group meets via zoom or in-person, what the frequency of meetings will be, where the meeting takes place, and what the agenda/topic/location/etc will be for the next meeting.
The Leadership Committee will be informed prior to starting a Shared Interest Group and will provide support to the group by posting meetings on the KPAC Website, introducing the group in the KPAC Member Newsletter, setting up and keeping up to date a group email list of members, scheduling use of the Zoom platform and provide training for Zoom hosting.
Current KPAC Shared Interest Groups
1. Lightroom/Photoshop Shared Interest Group
The Lightroom/Photoshop Shared Interest Group meets on the third Tuesday of the month at 7:00pm via Zoom video conferencing and is currently led by Dave Whiting. The focus of the group is to expand and learn new skills in both Lightroom and Photoshop as well as keep up to date and learn new features and enhancements in these two software platforms.

2. Photo Evaluation Shared Interest Group
The Photo Evaluation Shared Interest Group meets on the second Tuesday of the month at 7:00pm via Zoom video conferencing and is currently led by Tracey Mourre and Bonnie Pryce. The focus of the group is to provide constructive criticism on member photos. Photo critiques involve evaluating and providing feedback on photographs to help photographers improve their skills. This process typically involves analyzing various aspects of the image, such as composition, lighting, and subject matter, and offering constructive suggestions for improvement.
If you have questions or would like to join this group, send an email to: evalsigleader@kamloopsphotoarts.ca You will then be added to the group email and be sent the KPAC Zoom Link.
3. Wildlife Photography Shared Interest Group
The Wildlife Photography Shared Interest Group meets in-person at the Community Meeting Room on the second floor of the Kamloops library on Saturday afternoons. The group is coordinated by Dave Whiting. Group meetings will be scheduled once in the fall, early in the new year and in the spring. The purpose of the meetings are to share a few recent photos with one another, share general locations of good photography “hot spots” on public land in the region, and discuss gear, online resources, and “tips and tricks” that are of value to wildlife photographers. Of paramount importance is not sharing information which could cause adverse impacts, either directly or indirectly, to the critters we love to photograph.
If you have questions or would like to join this group, send an email to: wildlifesigleader@kamloopsphotoarts.ca You will then be added to the group email and be notified of upcoming meetings.
